There has been some discussion recently around the demolition of the Creamery Building, so I thought I would post these pictures that I took a few days ago of the actual demolition.

Super! Thanks for the pix. The ghost sign and butterfly-roof building were especially welcome sights.
In the recent discussion, I was forgetting one thing: when we moved to Fort Collins in 1959, before Dad was able to get on at CSU and as a private piano teacher and church organist, he put in some time as a milkman for Dairy Gold (I believe that’s who it was at the time). He didn’t have to do it for long, but he did bring back one story from it:
The day he was being shown his route, the more experienced milkman who was handing it off to him pointed out a German Shepherd watching them silently. “That dog,” the elder milkman said, “used to come running up at me every day, barking and snapping and trying to get me. Finally, I got tired of it, and one day when I came up, I had a milk carton in my hand, and I brought it right down on his head. The carton broke on contact, and there was milk everywhere. You never saw such a surprised dog.” The dog stayed where he was, following them with his eyes. “He’s never bothered me since.”
Thanks for the pictures. I worked at Poudre Valley Creamery in the summer of 72. I started at the milk plant and then helped a driver by the name of Larry Saricino with his route. The butterfly building was the driver shack then and all of the route drivers would do their paperwork there. I remember the inside of the warehouse. The only production that was done there was for sour cream and cottage cheese. The building was used as offices and as a warehouse for paper goods. There was a really rickety freight elevator that would moan and groan as it went from floor to floor. The building was in pretty bad shape back then. I cant imagine what it looked like before it was demolished.
Poudre Valley Creamery made the best cottage cheese. Who knows what will become of the site and the plan for the little butterfly building?
Speaking of pictures, I just found another 19 scans from the negatives I shot on that Sunday in November of 1979 when I walked all over town (I’m pretty sure I walked. There’s a bike in a couple of shots, and I always used to put my bike in the picture, but I don’t think this is my bike.) and used up three rolls of 36. They start here.
Very cool photos Kip-Thanks for the link
In the ’60s, the Poudre Valley Creamery had the best peppermint ice cream in the world! We would get a cone after the Boots & Spurs meeting. Boots & Spurs was a horseback riding club for kids.
I still long for that peppermint ice cream, and I’ve never found another that comes close to matching that wonderful flavor.
I agree with you about Poudre Valley’s Ice Cream. It was the best and couldn’t be beat! My dad delivered for them in the Roggen area for 16 years. Sure wish I could find some memorabilia!
